Long ago, the people of Israel were facing a frightening enemy army called the Philistines.
Among the Philistines was a huge warrior named Goliath. He was strong, tall, and heavily armed.
Every day, Goliath came forward and challenged the Israelites.
“Send someone to fight me!” he shouted.
The Israelite soldiers were terrified.
One day, a young shepherd named David came to visit his brothers who were serving in the army. When David heard Goliath challenging Israel, he was surprised that everyone was afraid.
“Why is everyone running away?” David asked.
David believed that God would help him.
King Saul heard about David’s courage and allowed him to face Goliath.
David did not take a sword or heavy armor. Instead, he took his shepherd’s sling and chose five smooth stones from a stream.
When Goliath saw David, he laughed.
“Am I a dog that you come at me with sticks?” Goliath shouted.
But David was not afraid.
“You come against me with weapons, but I come against you in the name of the Lord,” David replied.
David placed a stone in his sling, swung it, and released it.
Whoosh!
The stone struck Goliath on the forehead, and the giant fell to the ground.
The Israelites cheered because their enemy had been defeated.
David’s victory taught everyone an important lesson: great courage does not always come from great strength.
Moral of the Story
When we trust God, we can face challenges with courage even when they seem much bigger than us.
